Women inspiring women: Brockwell Park WI

The design for our banner uses the Brockwell Park WI logo as a starting point – green zig zag lines for the parkland and blue wavy lines for the water in the park.  West African wax print fabric from Brixton market was chosen to reflect our multicultural area.

African fabrics are not just beautiful but are infused with rich culture and complex history and are often used by women as a visual message. The fabric on the banner is in the suffrage colours of green, violet and white to show solidarity with the fight for women’s rights around the world. The slogan on the banner ‘women inspiring women’ was chosen to honour the fight of women suffrage campaigners 100 years ago who are inspiring women to continue fighting for women’s rights today. It is also a play on the WI motto – ‘inspiring women’.
